   Hyperborea's parent country, the Imperial Republic of Shireroth, works on a variant of the feudal system: the Kaiser grants lands to his supporters, and these lands are further subdivided and governed by chains of lesser nobles. The basic unit of the Shirerithian system is the Duchy, of which there are currently six. Duchies are split into Baronies and Thanedoms (alike in all but name). There are also some outlying territories which are the direct possession of the Kaiserial crown.
   Hyperborea is a Duchy with a single Barony, Elwynn. The Baron of Elwynn is Ardashir Osmani, closely advised by the former Baroness, Mari Greenwood. The current Dukeof Hyperborea is, as is the tradition, the same as the locally elected Elder, Mikol Rugal.
Please excuse slight inaccuracies in the diagram. The Ducal government unfortunately lacks time to keep it up-to-date with shifting political realities in Shireroth. It was accurate as of June 2003.
